Entrance Fees, Tickets and Fares

Victoria Peak is a district of Hong Kong Island and itself is a public place you can go without paying any fees.  However, many of the interesting things such as Madame Tussauds do of course admission fees. Tickets are also required for the famous Peak Tram, and fees apply if you are taking the alternatives like a bus or a taxi. The viewing platform at the Peak Tram Terminus has an entrance fee, but there are also places at the Galleria shopping arcade, the LCSD managed Peak Garden, and many points along the Circular Walk which are free.

Tickets for some things may be purchased in advance online and this is of course a good way to avoid queues. Advance tickets mean that you can spend more time enjoying the views, or walking along the quiet roads and paths, rather than standing around

Peak Tram

You have to pay to ride the tram and though it is possible to reach Victoria Peak several other ways, the tram is by far the most interesting and the best option for the visitor.  It is also very cheap, just like that other iconic Hong Kong transport, the Star Ferry, it is very affordable and great value .

The Peak Tram Ticket office at Garden Road lower terminus
Peak Tram Tickets
  Return Single
Adult HK$ 52 HK$ 37
Child (age 3 - 11)
Senior (age 65 or above)
HK$ 23 HK$ 14

The tickets are excellent value, though not as cheap as a bus ticket if you want to go to the top of Victoria Peak via bus. The only real problem is that at busy times, which is most of the day after 9am during summer or weekends, the queues can be very long.  If you have an Octopus stored value card allowing you to "beep" you way past the turnstiles that will save a lot of time, particularly on the downward journey where there is less queue for the tram itself, and more to get the tickets.

Lots of people do of course want to take the peak tram on the way up to see the views of Hong Kong and take those funny pictures of apparently slanting buildings that you can get from the windows. And that is why you'll find queues and lines of people much of the day.

Residents may wish to buy monthly tickets which are available at a cost of HK$620 for one adult pass and half that for children and the elderly.

Peak Tower

The Peak Tower, which is the Peak Tram Upper Terminus, is a small shopping arcade perched on the edge of the Mount Austin with outstanding views down the side of the mountain towards Victoria Harbour and across into Kowloon.

Entry into the majority of the tower is free with the exception of the next two items.

Peak Tower observation deck Sky Terrace 428

The observation deck near the top of the Peak Tower, known as SkyTerrace 428 because of it's height, is a great and convenient place to see the view.

Madame Tussauds

Madame Tussauds is the main ticketed attraction on The Peak and if you are intending to visit then it would do well to make some advance plans as tickets purchased on-line, in advance, and in combination with other offers can mean a very substantial discount. And of course advance purchase means skipping the long lines to purchase tickets which can save a lot of time, much better spent exploring the area.
