Gate Lodge Was Part Of The Former Mountain Lodge Estate

Gate Lodge was originally constructed between 1900 and 1902 and formed part of the Mountain Lodge estate, which, at the time, was the former Governor of Hong Kong's summer house. Gate lodge has since been used for various different purposes including as a police post and by the caretakers of Victoria Peak Gardens as a storage facility.

As the last remaining building on the Mountain Lodge site, Gate Lodge was declared as a public monument on the 31st March 1995 and is now protected under the Antiquities and Monuments Ordinance in Hong Kong.

Not far from the site of Gate Lodge is the former Mountain Lodge site with wonderful views over the west of Hong Kong Island. There is also a pavilion on the former Mountain Lodge site and also a small shop. From this historic site you can also get to the peak in about 10-minutes if you are walking and next to the Mountain Lodge site and Car Park there is a stone stairway that leads down to Victoria Peak Gardens.
