This photo was taken at the former Mountain Lodge site

This photo was taken at the former Mountain Lodge site. The site is at the top of Mount Austin Road and used to be where the Governor of Hong Kong had his summerhouse. These days it is a viewing platform that looks out to the west of Hong Kong Island.

There is a large pavilion on the site, which provides welcome shelter from the sun on a hot day. The views from here are slightly obscured in comparison to the peak but you can see parts of Lantau, Lamma and Kowloon as well as other islands that are dotted around off the coastline and the horizon stretching out to the South China Sea

There are a few other attractions near this site too like Gate Lodge, which was originally built between 1900 and 1902 and then declared as a monument in 1995. Gate Lodge was the gatehouse for the former Governor’s summer residence. Another wonderful attraction here is Victoria Peak Gardens, which used to be the summerhouse gardens and is now and beautiful park with manicured gardens, a creak, gazebos and well-kept lawns that invite you to stop for a picnic.
